The Alfredton Sports and Community Club is the result of years of voluntary work by members of the Ballarat Football and Netball Club and generous individuals from the Alfredton community supported by the Ballarat City Council, the State Government and the Australian Government.
The planning for the facility commenced in earnest in the year 2000. However the progress of the project was slow due to limited cash funds and at times, red tape. The project gathered momentum though in 2003 when the State Government announced a $50,000 grant (which was matched by the Ballarat Football Netball Club.)The foundation slab was poured in late 2003.
From this point, so many great people rallied to the cause and the impressive building rose from the earth, due to massive amounts of volunteer labour and donations of materials from many Ballarat businesses.
The Alfredton Sports and Community Club was officially opened in October 2005.
Today the facility is valued at $1.2 million and is testimony to the power of a united regional community working together to achieve a common vision.
The Alfredton Sports and Community Club is managed by a separate Board of Management made up of representatives from the member sporting clubs including:
- The Ballarat Football Club (Seniors)
- The Ballarat Football Club (Juniors)
- The Ballarat Football Netball Club
- The Ballarat Redan Cricket Club
- The Ballarat Petanque Club
- The Alfredton Angling Club
A representative from the Alfredton community and the Ballarat City Council are also members of the controlling Board of Management.
In 2008, the Ballarat Memorial Services Bowling Club will be relocating to Alfredton and joining the Alfredton Sports and Community Club. Plans are being developed for a $million extension of the Sports Club, which will include a separate dining/bistro area, extension of the function room, extension of the bar area, new Board/Meeting room, viewing area for the new synthetic bowling rinks and several other exciting additions.
